Rookie

This is the entry-level group where swimmers learn the fundamentals of competitive swimming. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) without stopping of freestyle and backstroke. Swimmers are encouraged to attend 2-3 workouts per week.

Age: Minimum age of 6 (swimmers will typically range from 6-10 years old)

Focus: Development of the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) along with starts and turns in a fun environment.

Typical Practice Structure (1 Hour):
10 Minutes of Warm-up
15 Minutes of Kicking
20 Minutes of Technique Work
15 Minutes of a Mini-set/Game

Equipment Needed:
Swim Cap
Goggles (not snorkel type that covers the nose)
Swim Suit (either Speedo or Jammer style for boys)

Requirements for moving from Rookie to Age Group:
Must be 8 years old
Swim 3 strokes legally and be close on the 4th
Be able to dive into the water (head first)
Be able to correctly do a flip turn
Recommendation of the Rookie Coach

Move-up Set:
200 IM (50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, and 50 Freestyle) with 3 out of the 4 strokes performed legally
